Port Houston to Implement Fees for Long-dwelling Containers to Reduce Dwell Time

2022-11-08

As the number of containers arriving at the port has surged, the Port of Houston recently approved two new charges for containers stranded at the port in an effort to clear a backlog of imports at the port`s two terminals.

The port committee decided to implement the "Sustained Import Dwell Fee" from December 1, 2022, while also approving the "Excessive Import Dwell Fee". Both charges are in addition to demurrage charges.
