Throughput growth, port logistics trend shows a new climate of foreign trade

2023-05-08

According to Economic Information Daily, in the first quarter of the year, the throughput of many Chinese ports increased significantly, the volume of empty containers is gradually reduced, revealing a new atmosphere of foreign trade development, but also firm confidence in the stability and quality of foreign trade under the complex background of the year.

At the container terminal in Chuanshan Port area of Zhoushan Port, this reporter saw that on the shoreline of the terminal, which is about 3.74 kilometers long, giant ships with tons were lined up, and almost all of the 11 deep-water berths for large containers were full. The crane is busy working with the container truck to load and unload goods.

According to the data of Zhejiang Port and Navigation Administration Center, from January to March this year, Ningbo Zhoushan Port completed 331 million tons of cargo throughput, up 9.14% year on year; The container throughput was 8.1878 million TEUs, a year-on-year growth of 3.48%.

Not only in Zhoushan Port of Ningbo, since March, the level of empty container piling has fallen from the peak in many ports, and the volume of container use is gradually recovering.

According to the latest data from the Ministry of Transport, from January to March this year, the cargo throughput of China's ports was 3.854 billion tons, up 6.2% year on year. Among them, the cargo throughput of foreign trade was 1.19 billion tons, up 7.8%, and that of domestic trade was 2.66 billion tons, up 5.4%. Container throughput at ports across the country was 69.73 million TEus, up 3.5 percent year-on-year.

Increasingly rich route resources and continuously improved comprehensive port service capacity provide strong support for ensuring smooth trade supply chain and industrial chain. The busy operation of ports and frequent "migration" of containers also confirm the new atmosphere of China's foreign trade volume and quality.

Experts expect that as China's economic operation continues to improve overall, the good momentum of foreign trade is expected to continue. Export container use will gradually increase, and the growth of main indicators of coastal port production will pick up this year.
